    Bristol Cycle Festival | Exhibition

We are pleased to be involved in this exhibition, opening on the 10th and running for two weeks at the Howies Gallery above their shop in Bristol. The show coincides with the first Bristol Cycle Festival.

On show will be the 100 cycling caps from the Thinking Caps project, which will be auctioned of to raise money for the Bristol Bike Project and the Bristol Bike Project will themselves be exhibiting a collection of photographs and illustrations. The brilliant Bone Shaker magazine will be exhibiting a collection of work from its contributors. Also work from Peskimo, No Gears and ourselves.

A very bicycle themed event with lots going on. We will be there at the opening on the 10th so come along and say hello.

Death Before Dishonour | Assassination Black

As always we love seeing and indeed printing the Death Before Dishonour shirts. This is the latest addition to the range, and it is a cracker. Snap one up now on the Death Before Dishonour store.

Here is some more info taken from the Death Before Dishonour site.

"....Cult London brand "Death Before Dishonour" has built it's following by refusing to pull punches. With no big boss to pass things through it's open season to get deep down and dirty. Images are often inspired by true "Blood and Guts" hardmanisim, with a definite ironic twist, throwing it straight back at anyone foolish enough to embrace thuggery. Experimental garment construction, martial arts military references and a cheeky little hint of "How's yer father?" come together to creat a wearable "In yer face" style...."

Studio Space One | Vertigo Series

Producing this punchy series of limited edition screen prints for Sam Gray from Studio Space One was a highly satisfying experience on all accounts. The clean design and solid colour pallet made for a final set of prints which hold the theme of Vertigo together in a neat, clean and thoughtful series.

We printed this 2 Colour (Black and Yellow 012u) series 4 up on A1 270gsm GFSmith Colorplan Bright White Acid Free stock, then finished them down to 4 X A3 limited editions of 10 Screen Prints.

    AnyForty | 123Klan

We just printed this 4 colour limited edition run of 25 t.shirts for the recent AnyForty Verses exhibition held, at Start The Bus, in Bristol.

This design is the work of the highly prestigious 123Klan, based in Montreal.  These very exclusive shirts will soon be available for £25 on the AnyForty online shop for a limited amount of time, so watch that space.  All profits from shirt and art sales will be going to Bristol charity, Knowle West Media Centre.  We were pretty proud to be a sponsor of the night, along with the legendary Ripe Digital and Bristol’s premier skate shop FiftyFifty.  The exhibition was pretty hot stuff and all monies raised go to a great cause.

Studio 8 | Collaborations in Type & Print

We recently printed this rather beautiful 2 colour poster for a talk Studio 8 Design gave in May as part of The Typographic Circle events calendar. The poster was hand screen printed on Colorplan Citrine 175gsm stock which was supplied courtesy of GFSmith

Studio8 Design is an award-winning independent graphic design studio with a reputation for delivering intelligent and engaging creative solutions. Based in central London, Studio8 was established in 2005 by Matt Willey and Zoë Bather. Working with clients both large and small, in the UK and overseas, Studio8 produces a diverse range of work that includes editorial, exhibition, signage, corporate literature, websites, and brand identities.

I was sad to miss the talk, but very happy to have been involved in creating this elegant poster.

    BRIGHTON FREAKSHOW | Exhibition

    THE FREAKSHOW WENT OFF!

Whoever of you out there that made it down for the opening night would have been witness, and as we managed the drive from Bath, we too saw the wall-to-wall going off that went off.

Really excellent turnout to a really excellent show, and one that we are really proud to have been involved in.  We printed prices for eight of the artists involved, these being illustration wizards:

    Megamunden

    Johnny Mac

    Luke Insect

    Elliott Grubb

    Chris Ede

    Velvet Spectrum &

    Tom Burden.

The range of pieces was diverse, and each offered a different challenge in terms of separation and print.  We were stoked on the results of everything going out the door, and double stoked when seeing everything framed and on the wall amongst the rest of show at St Peter's Church in Brighton.

Until the opening night we had only met with Megamunden in person, so making it down was a fine opportunity to meet with everyone else involved.  We sure reckon these guys and girls have a good thing going on down South, and strongly recommend dropping by the show whilst you can.  It's running every Saturday until near the end of the month, so pen it on your calendar with indelible ink.

    A Beautiful Machine | WhiteDuck

We were really excited to get involved in this event, A Beautiful Machine, coming courtesy of Howies & McFaul Studio.  For those of you who haven't seen the vast amount of tweeting and publicity surrounding this, the brief was simply "produce a piece of art based around the words A Beautiful Machine that isn't bigger than A2 and needs to be framed".  Or at least that's a summing up.

Anyway, our 4 colour print is based around a photograph taken in Bristol during a skid comp, possibly one of the more exhilarating occasions one spends on his or her beautiful machine.

We wanted to demonstrate with this edition some of the finer effects and nuances that screen print can achieve.  It runs like this...

    ...........................................................

We're really happy with our print, but this will be only one amongst some 50 exhibiting artists!  The event runs for two weeks, so check the blog for info on how, where & when to check it out.

    A Beautiful Machine | McFaulStudio | howies

When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote that – oh so right!

Beginning Friday March 26th McFaulStudio and howies have curated a two-week event of art, talk and ride based above the howies store in Bristol. We have reached out to those who ride, those who allow us to ride…and those who want us to ride, bringing us all together in a carnival of bicycle. Those who design and those who draw, those who paint or shoot or sew, those who talk or make, those who fix and those who nurture are all involved as they all share a love of A Beautiful Machine.

Over 50 artists from around the Globe. 15 incredible speakers. 1 Bicycle treasure hunt, 1 rather special Bicycle auction and 1 Critical Mass. Two weeks in Bristol. A lot of fun.

    Let the good times roll!

    Hunting Lodge | NoirFun

We printed some great tee's for Hunting Lodge's Spring 2010 NoirFun collection. Designed by Mark James these tees are really very nice indeed. If you cant make it to the Hunting Lodge shop in Norway no worries because they are now up for sale on the Hunting Lodge online shop I especially liked the 'Lobstar' design.

There is a nice post on the Hunting Lodge blog showing the tee's in store.

30 Seconds To Mars | Dusseldorf show poster

What a doozy. We were stoked to print this poster, firstly because it came courtesy of well respected poster artist Todd Slater, and secondly because it used a number of great techniques in the one image.

Technique 1 / split fountain from yellow to red. Deluxe.

Technique 2 / super fine bitmap for the black smoke. Tidy.

Technique 3 / what you can't see in these photos is the slightly metallic varnish layer that star-studs the black and carries the name and symbols of the artist. Sublime.

Technique 4 / transparent bitmap dove. Started off with a transparency of 75%, which proved to be too subtle, then worked our way up to around 35-40%. Beautiful.

Easily one of the most enjoyable prints we have produced.

30 SECONDS TO MARS | PARIS SHOW POSTER

This was the second of the 30 Seconds To Mars posters we printed.

Straight forward 3 colour artwork separation and print, but none the less beautiful for it.

    Look solid.  Look fine.

30 Seconds To Mars | Glasgow show poster

This was the first of the 30 Seconds To Mars posters to be printed.

Pretty straight forward, but a very nice finished piece.

Only two colour, but the red uses a tidy gradient in the background.  See, there it is!

    Deluxe.
